Leiden Pub Crawl

Leiden is known as the "key city" for the keys featured on its coat of arms. In order to be featured on our website, it's KEY that a city boasts some great bars. Luckily, Leiden has no shortage of these.

This pub crawl will take you to many unique bars and allow you to experience the city's stunning sights. Leiden celebrates its triumph over the Spanish invaders who laid siege to the city in 1574 on October 3rd. On this day, all schools are closed and the entire town celebrates.

Our recommendation is to plan your visit to Leiden around this special date to experience the festivities first hand.

We hope that you enjoy the pub crawl and let us know what you think via our social media channels.

The pubs

The Duke of Oz

This Australian-style pub is perfect for sports fans too, as it doubles as a sports bar. If there's a particular match you want to watch, just ask one of the friendly bartenders and they'll likely put it on one of the many TV screens scattered throughout the venue. Plus, with a wide variety of beers on tap, there's something for everyone to enjoy. The Duke of Oz is an ideal spot to sit back, relax, and chat for hours, all while watching your favourite sports and listening to great music.

North End Pub

The North End Pub is a large English-style bar located in the heart of Leiden. Inside, you'll find numerous cosy booths where you can hang out with your mates and enjoy a pint. This bar is especially known for its impressive selection of reasonably priced draught beers and whiskies. In fact, they've even earned an award for their extensive whisky menu.

Estaminet Schommelen

Prepare for a unique experience at this next bar, possibly one of the strangest you'll ever visit. Rather than traditional barstools, you'll be swinging on actual swing sets! Despite its small size and unassuming exterior, this hidden gem is not to be missed. Get ready for a one-of-a-kind night out in Leiden.

Einstein

Named after the brilliant scientist, this modern bar is located in the bustling heart of the city. You'll find a lively atmosphere with plenty of patrons, and an impressive selection of both beer and food.

Café De Uyl van Hoogland

Located directly next to the Hooglandse Kerk, Café de Uyl is a popular bar that offers a warm and inviting atmosphere thanks to its cosy lighting. It's especially popular among students, who flock here to unwind and socialize.

De Bonte Koe

Stepping into De Bonte Koe feels like entering an old Dutch children's tale, with beautifully decorated white-tiled walls and a large depiction of a cow as its centrepiece. This pub attracts a diverse crowd, from old businessmen to young students. Come and experience the unique ambiance of De Bonte Koe for yourself.
